Ratha Yatra Hamburg

Lord Jagannath, Lord of the Universe, visits Hamburg, the “Gateway to the World”

Saturday 25 August 2012 will be the date of the second Ratha Yatra festival in the history of Hamburg. The Ratha Yatra chariot procession originates in Jagannath Puri in India where it is celebrated by millions of people every year. It is one of the largest peace demonstrations of the World.

The centre of the procession is Lord Jagannatha, the “Lord of the Universe”. Devotees and passers-by pull His chariot through the streets with long ropes. In this way, He gives everyone the opportunity to see and to please Him by dancing and chanting the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra in front of Him. His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Founder Acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, first introduced this festival to the West in the year 1967. Since then, it has been performed in all major cities of the world, including seven German cities.

Please everyone join this wonderful procession. We will start at 11 a.m. in Mönckebergstraße in front of Saturn and altogether we will pull the chariot through the City of Hamburg. By 3 p.m. we will be back at Saturn, Mönckebergstraße where an Indian cultural programme will be staged.
