Welcome on board.
You have arrived at the home page of the Bhakti Yoga Centre in Hamburg, Germany. We are part of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).
Our organization has been in Hamburg since 1969, and as such the Hamburg temple was the Hare Krishna Movement's first European centre. The Bhakti Yoga Centre has developed into a meeting place where the congregation gathers at least once a week for the now famous Hare Krishna Sunday Feast. Our priests are long standing members of the Hare Krishna Movement who have absolved a thorough religious practice at different ISKCON temples in Europe, the USA and India.
Maybe you have arrived at this page because you are looking for an address of the Hare Krishna Movement in Hamburg. Or maybe you are interested in Yoga and Hinduism. Besides Hatha Yoga, Bhakti Yoga is the most well known path of self realization in Hinduism. Whereas Hatha Yoga requires gymnastic exercises, Bhakti Yoga acts through pronouncing the names of God, the Hare Krishna mantra. The mantra can be murmured silently or sung with musical accompaniment. If congregational dancing is added, the mantra meditation becomes kirtan. In our photo gallery you can see a few vivid examples of this type of meditation under "Ratha Yatra Berlin". Since Bhakti Yoga can be easily practiced by everyone, be he young, old, Indian or European, it is becoming more and more popular.
For the philosophically inclined, too, the path of Bhakti has veritable treasures in store. Let us only mention the age old Bhagavad-gita, India's classic of Sanskrit literature, from which we regularly hold classes during our Sunday feasts.
The most important part of each temple is the altar. In our Bhakti Yoga Centre we hold pujas (altar ceremonies) for Sri Krishna and His emanations during our Sunday feast programmes. Krishna is one of the names of God widely known in Hinduism. In our photo gallery you can get a first impression of our altar.
During our Sunday feasts there is opportunity for a happy spiritual exchange of ideas. We cordially invite you.
Hare Krishna
